As a mom and travel writer, I prioritize fostering independence in my 7-year-old son during our adventures. One of the most effective ways I've found to encourage this is by allowing him to pack and carry his own luggage. This not only teaches him responsibility but also gives him a sense of ownership over our trips. He takes pride in selecting his clothes and essentials, which makes for a more engaging travel experience.
In addition to packing, I involve him in the trip planning process. Together, we research our destination, explore activities, and decide on places we want to visit. This collaborative approach not only builds his decision-making skills but also sparks his curiosity about the world around him.
By empowering my son in these ways, I aim to instill confidence and independence that will serve him well beyond our travels. These experiences are not just about visiting new places; they are about growing together as a family.
